 Plot

Lara Croft has just returned from a hunting trip in the Himalayas where, having bagged a 12-foot tall yeti, she's itching for a new challenge. While enjoying a little R & R, she's contacted Jacqueline Natla, a conniving business woman who convinces Lara to recover a mysterious artifact from the tomb of Qualopec in Peru.
Wasting no time, Lara sets out on her quest to find one of the three pieces of the ancient Atlantean Scion, a talisman of incredible power. After disovering the fragment things get ugly, Lara finds herself face to face with one of Natla's hired goons. Using her cunning wits and athletic strenghth, Lara escapes!

Of course you have noticed this is copied directly from the Tomb Raider homepage but hey, what did you expect?

My Opinion

Well, this is really a cool game!  Worth the 2 megs of the time it takes to download the demo and also the money it costs to buy it!  In this game you walk or run around in ancient tooms and kill the creatures therin.  You have to fight everything from mummies to dinosours to bats to bears to mythical creatures to... well you get the point, you half to fight a whole load o' things!  Even with all of these things to fight the best part IMHO is the spelunking.  You half to leap from ledges and dodge boulders and then some!  It's a great, well-planned game and worth getting.
Also, all of these are done in completely realistic and smooth movements.  There are thousands of poses and movements for Lara and they all look like they took forever to program.

Appeal: Spelunkers, fighters, adventurers, and archeologists!
Pros: GREAT graphics, GREAT movents, GREAT plot, GREAT action, and pretty good sound too!
Cons: Possibly a little skimpy on the action (I finished the game with quite a bit of ammo left), a little on the easy side (there should have been a toughness selection in the beginning), and may get stuck for a couple hours.
Reccomendation: Even if you don't want to buy it (which you should) you HAVE to download it!

Hints and Cheats

Hints/Strategies:

1)  Keep moving.  A moving target is always harder to hit, especially with TR's lousy AI.
2)  Jump right as they are going to hit you.  Just as the wolf is going to touch you, jump so that you are facing it and it's not facing you, this may be easier to do using the roll button too.
3)  Look around.  If you are ever stuck there is always a ledge or corridor or tunnell that you didn't see.  This is the easiest strategy to keep the game moving at a steady pace.  This tactic is also sooooo much easier when you have it on high res.
4)  Try to fight in open spaces.
5)  Kill what is swimming in the water before you dive in.
6)  Jump everywhere.  Off of slides, platforms, anything.  It is the answer to your troubles.
7)  Look for discoured spots on the floor.  Try walking over them in different patterns.  After that listen as the secret doors open.
8)  It may take away a little tensity from the game but it goes without saying that it's easier to beat if you constantly save, don't worry, you can't get into a situation that is irriversable, the designers made sure of that.

Cheats:

Don't do this: hold shift, take one small step forward, take one small step backwards, let go of shift, turn around 3 full rotations clockwise, and then jump forward.  This cheat, uhh, erases everything on your computer except minesweeper, then every brick except one is a mine.  Yeah, that's it!
Fine, here are some cheats, but only use when needed!

PC Version

Level Skip: While in a level, do the following with Lara:

Press forward slash (/) so that Lara will draw a flare.  Now, holding the walk button, walk 1 step forward, walk 1 step back, turn around 3 full times  (it doesn't matter which direction) and do a forward jump.
Remember! Perform the whole sequence holding the walk button, except for lighting the flare.

All Weapons: While in a level, do the same code as above but instead  of doing a forward jump, do a backflip.

Destroy Lara: While in a level, do one of the codes above but without  lighting a flare first.

Playstation VersionNew!

Do the following during play: Slide left, Slide right, Slide left, Walk back, Walk forward, still holding the "walk" button turn 3 times completely around, then jump up, and hit the "roll" button at the same time.
Now if you do a jump by hitting forward then backwards you skip levels.
Now if you do a jump by hitting backwards then forwards you get all weapons, multiple flares and medipacs.

Look for hacks on the internet, they are everywhere, but, because I don't believe in them I will not tell you where.

Also look for walkthroughs.  You shouldn't need them, it's not like TR is a really hard game, but if you want to get all the secrets... well.
